Experience the heartland of Andalucía, with its beautiful cities and charming white villages, and two of the monumental cities of Old Castile, Madrid and Toledo. Sample fine regional cooking and wines along the way, enjoy a gastronomic day in the south, a concert and two relaxing nights on the Mediterranean.

founDay 1 MADRID

Arrive Madrid; private transfer in from airport to your hotel. Afternoon city tour—from the Puerta Castellana to the Old Straw Market.  Early welcome dinner with your guide in chic Chueca district. Overnight: Hotel Vincci/central downtown boutique hotel D  

 

Day 2 MADRID

After breakfast meet our local art guide/historian for a visit to the home and studio of the great Valencian Impressionist Joaquín Sorolla to see his light-infused paintings. Continue to the Prado Museum for a tour of the Highlights of the Spanish School. Free afternoon to explore Madrid on your own. Evening, Wines of Spain Seminar, followed by tapas at our Wine School.  Overnight: as above B Tapas

 

Day 3 MADRID • TOLEDO • MADRID

Join your guide on the morning train to Toledo for a walking tour of this UNESCO World Heritage city of three cultures. Your walk will wind through a labyrinth of streets from the Cathedral, to the Santa Maria la Blanca Synagogue, on to the El Greco House & Studio, Santo Tomé Church and other sights. Sit down to lunch in an 18th century palace to sample the cuisine of Old Castile. Enjoy free time to wander and shop and return to Madrid when you’re ready. Free evening in Madrid.  Overnight: as above  B L

Day 4 MADRID • CÓRDOBA • GRANADA

Morning train to Córdoba, a center of scholarship and arts in the Middle Ages. On arrival, meet your guide who will be with you for the days ahead in Andalucia. Explore the 10th century city on a walking tour, including the Great Mosque. Lunch in a  jasmine filled patio. This afternoon drive on to Granada, with a stop to see an historic olive oil mill. This evening take a walking tour of Granada’s Renaissance city and sample the tapas of al Andalus.  Overnight: Palacio de las Navas/18th c palace in the old quarter B L D

 

Day 5 GRANADA

Meet our local expert this morning for a private walking tour of the Alhambra & Generalife palaces. This afternoon enjoy free time to visit the old Arab souk, Royal Chapel, Lorca Museum and the elegant shops of the old city. Early evening, explore the old Moorish quarter/Albayzín, followed by a North African inspired dinner and Flamenco in the gypsy quarter of Sacromonte.  Overnight: as above  B D

 

columnsDay 6 GRANADA• RONDA • CÁDIZ

Depart for the old Moorishtown of Ronda perched high above a mountain gorge; see the old mosque, Arab baths, and Spain’s oldest Plaza de Toros. Sit down to a light lunch with a view before continuing to the Atlantic coast and the ancient city of Cádiz,  the oldest city in the western world. This evening you’ll have a special seaside dinner. Overnight: Parador de Cádiz/on the ancient fortress above the sea  B L D

 

Day 7 CÁDIZ • JEREZ •  SEVILLA

This morning tour the town made famous by Sherry wines, Jerez. Visit to a local bodega/winery for a tour and tasting. Continue to the Royal School of Equestrian Art for the late morning Equestrian Show. Enjoy the noble atmosphere over lunch in this UNESCO World Heritage town.  Continue into Sevilla this afternoon. Free time before an evening cruise on the Guadalquivir, followed by tapas in the Arenal quarter. Overnight: Hotel Casa Romana/romantic boutique hotel in the old quarter  B L Tapas

 

Day 8 SEVILLA

You’ll appreciate Spain’s most romantic city on your morning walking tour that includes sights long associated with Carmen and Don Juan, and includes visits to the Royal Palace and Gardens of the Alcázar and to the third largest Cathedral in Christendom. Continue to the Christina Hoyos Museum of Flamenco before a light lunch. Enjoy free time this afternoon to shop along Calle Sierpes, or meander the labyrinth of streets in Barrio Santa Cruz, before a special farewell dinner with your guide in the heart of the Santa Cruz quarter.  Overnight: as above B D

 

Day 9 SEVILLA • MADRID

Transfer to the station for the train to Madrid on the AVE/high speed train. Transfer on arrival to your hotel. Enjoy an independent day in Madrid for last minute museums or shopping.  Overnight: Hotel Vincci  B

 

Day 10 MADRID • USA

Private transfer out to Barajas Airport for departure.  B
